‘Bio’ means ‘life’ and ‘Blitz’ means ‘to do something quickly and intensively’. Together they make ‘BioBlitz’, a collaborative race against the clock to discover as many species of plants, animals and fungi as possible, within a set location, over a defined time period (usually 24 hours).
This guide has been designed to support the running of BioBlitzes and similar wildlife events in the UK. It is aimed at those running a large-scale event but a BioBlitz doesn’t have to be big to be successful.
The guide has been produced by Natural History Museum, Bristol Natural History Consortium, Stockholm Environment Institute, York and the Marine Biological Association.
